What's New

The latest features, improvements, and fixes in FlowDictate.

v1.1.75

macOS
  • NewMeet Live Preview: see and edit your words as you speak, clean up wording and punctuation, and move or collapse the preview above the recording pill.
  • ImprovedA refreshed app with balanced light and dark themes, a flexible dashboard, a compact icon sidebar, and organized Settings and Customize tabs.
  • ImprovedA simpler setup journey guides you from sign-in through permissions to your first real dictation.
  • ImprovedStart dictating, switch between apps, and choose where your text goes when you stop. If the destination changes during processing, your text stays available to recover.
  • ImprovedMore reliable recording starts, clearer microphone and sign-in guidance, and safer recovery when your Mac locks or sleeps.

v1.0.18

Windows
  • ImprovedDictations that showed "No speech" after a fast start — the audio captured just before the hotkey was being counted wrong. Warm starts now transcribe every time.

v1.0.17

Windows
  • ImprovedIn-app updates that closed the app without installing. Flow Dictate now runs the installer itself from its own folder, and the installer waits for the app to close instead of giving up.
  • ImprovedIf an update can't be installed, the app reports why on the next launch so it can be fixed quickly.

v1.0.16

Windows
  • ImprovedDictation starts instantly — the microphone stays ready between dictations, so the first word is never clipped. A new setting lets you turn this off.
  • ImprovedThe last moment before you press the hotkey is captured too, so a word spoken right on the key press still lands.
  • NewSettings → Updates: check for updates and install an available update at any time, even after dismissing the update prompt.

v1.0.15

Windows
  • ImprovedFixes a crash a few seconds after launch that affected 1.0.14.
  • ImprovedInstalling an update from the update dialog no longer crashes the app.
  • ImprovedUpdate prompts return after "Skip this version" — a skipped version is re-offered on the next check.
  • ImprovedUpdates staged for install now run before the app quits, and the app confirms on the next launch that the update took effect.

v1.0.14

Windows
  • ImprovedThe app no longer checks for updates every few seconds in the background — checks now run once at launch and once a day, as intended.
  • ImprovedAn available update is reported once, not repeatedly.

v1.0.13

Windows
  • ImprovedFaster paste — dictated text lands sooner after you release the hotkey.
  • ImprovedQuicker start on short, back-to-back dictations.
  • ImprovedLatency telemetry now matches macOS, so cross-platform comparisons are apples-to-apples.

v1.0.12

Windows
  • ImprovedMore reliable microphone capture across Windows laptops and multi-channel microphone arrays.
  • ImprovedFaster, clearer feedback while the microphone starts, records, and recovers from a temporary speech-service issue.
  • ImprovedRapid tap-and-release and back-to-back dictations no longer leave an old audio session running or crash the app.
  • ImprovedRemoved repeated updater activity and repaired customization syncing.
  • ImprovedSilence and invalid captures are detected locally instead of waiting on backup transcription providers.

v1.0.11

Windows
  • NewFaster realtime transcription, with Soniox remaining the primary speech engine.
  • ImprovedAutomatic backup transcription now recovers through Deepgram and Cartesia if the primary service has a temporary issue.
  • ImprovedDictations are no longer discarded when every transcription provider fails.
  • NewFailed recordings are preserved locally and can be retried from the tray menu.
  • ImprovedAdditional provider, recovery, and abnormal-exit diagnostics make reliability issues easier to identify.

v1.1.73

macOS
  • ImprovedUp to 3× faster dictation with upgraded speech recognition.
  • NewOrganize Custom Words into sections that sync across your Macs.
  • ImprovedBetter custom vocabulary support for names and specialized terms.
  • ImprovedSmoother punctuation and more reliable customization syncing.

v1.1.72

macOS
  • ImprovedDictation now ends instantly the moment you release after holding to talk — no more brief pause before your text appears.
  • ImprovedFaster paste once you finish speaking, so your words land in the app sooner.
  • ImprovedQuicker, more reliable first dictation after the app has been idle.

v1.1.71

macOS
  • ImprovedFixed an issue where dictation could stop immediately with an "Audio route changed" message on some Macs.

v1.1.70

macOS
  • ImprovedNumbers, dates, and prices now appear as digits automatically (e.g. "3 meetings on June 5, $1,250").
  • ImprovedLong dictations now break into paragraphs automatically.
  • ImprovedMore reliable when your microphone or audio device changes mid-dictation, stopping gracefully instead of capturing silence.
  • ImprovedFaster first dictation after the app has been idle, and quicker recovery from speech recognition hiccups.
  • ImprovedVarious stability fixes: fewer crashes and fewer dropped or cut-off dictations.

v1.0.10

Windows
  • ImprovedYour clipboard is now preserved across dictations — whatever you had copied before triggering Flow Dictate is restored after the paste.
  • NewSmarter dictation start: the HUD shows a brief 'preparing' indicator while the mic initializes, then expands to the full dictating state only once audio is actually flowing.
  • ImprovedFaster cold start — the audio engine now warms up at app launch so your first dictation feels snappier.
  • ImprovedCleaned up a false-alarm log entry that was reporting paste failures when paste was succeeding.

v1.0.9

Windows
  • ImprovedDictation no longer silently fails when another app (like Microsoft Teams) changes your default audio device mid-session — Flow Dictate now pins the system default capture device on every recording.
  • NewPick a specific microphone in Settings → Input Device instead of always tracking the system default.
  • ImprovedWhen no speech is detected, the HUD now briefly shows a "No speech detected" message instead of disappearing silently.
  • ImprovedIn-app "Check for Updates" was silently broken in earlier versions. Future updates will install automatically again — existing users will need to install this one manually one time.

v1.0.8

Windows
  • ImprovedInternal diagnostics to help us track down a rare silent-dictation issue some users have reported. No behavior changes in this release.

v1.0.7

Windows
  • ImprovedInstaller no longer shows a scary "ERROR: process not found" message when no existing Flow Dictate is running.
  • ImprovedSmoother progress bar during install.
  • ImprovedInstaller internals hardened against antivirus false positives — uninstaller is now code-signed alongside the main app.

v1.0.6

Windows
  • NewNo-microphone warning during onboarding setup so you know to plug one in.
  • ImprovedClearer "dictate to continue" hint on the playground step of onboarding.
  • ImprovedSharper tray icon at high-DPI displays.
  • ImprovedStartup no longer hangs waiting for sign-in restore when the network is slow (5-second timeout).
  • ImprovedExisting Pro users no longer briefly see 'Membership Required' on first dashboard load.
  • ImprovedHistory storage and logging stability improvements.
